Greyhound Blog

It can be pretty hard to decide on where to go travelling and it’s easy to get torn between the sea and the hills; surfing or mountain climbing; sunshine or…Wait a minute. Who said you had to choose? The Sunshine Coast has the best of everything that Australia has to offer, from gorgeous beaches to peaceful hinterlands and every kangaroo, bush turkey and lorikeet in between. With friendly people, a laid-back lifestyle and so many different attractions, the best (and cheapest!) way to see the coast is by backpacking. So, before you start “two strapping it”, don’t forget to pack this handy guide on your travels through the Sunshine Coast!

Backpackers watching the waves, Sunshine Coast

Considered to be one of Australia’s premier vacation destinations, there is certainly no shortage of comfortable and affordable accommodations for every backpacker’s budget. The vast shoreline of the Sunshine Coast is dotted with dozens of amazing accommodations. The Flashpacker Noosa is just one example, and has consistently been rated a favourite among your fellow travellers and holds the Trip Advisor “Certificate of Excellence” (three years running). Plus with low room rates, this backpacking trip may just turn into ”relocation”. If you aren’t sold yet, your stay includes free continental breakfast, free WiFi, a beautiful “Aqua Lounge” pool area for mingling with other travellers and complimentary shuttle transportation to and from all Greyhound coach stations. The proprietors have pulled out all of the stops to ensure your stay is just as memorable as the rest of your trip.

Local Attractions

Beaches, beaches, and more beaches... did we mention beaches? No matter where you are in the Sunshine Coast, you’re never too far from beautiful white sand and some killer waves. However, that’s not all Australia’s 9th largest metropolitan has to offer. Just minutes inland you’ll find yourself immersed in beautiful scenery and unforgettable attractions. Noosa National Park, a favourite with locals and backpackers alike, has breathtaking trails, unique vegetation and of course, Koalas!

Croc feeding at Australia Zoo

Alas, a trip to the Sunshine Coast wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Australia Zoo, home to the one and only, Steve Irwin (AKA, “The Crocodile Hunter”). This hundred-acre reserve features over 100 birds, reptiles and crocodiles and welcome nearly 700,000 patrons every year. The Australia zoo is a must-see for every backpacker passing through the Sunshine Coast.

Day Trips

What makes the Sunshine Coast so attractive to travellers is its close proximity to MANY other fantastic attractions. With amazing and flexible travel passes from Greyhound, some of Australia’s top sights are just a short trip away. Perfect for a day trip to Brisbane or the Gold Coast! Both cities offer plenty of spectacular sights, beaches and sunshine!
