THE 2018 AUSSIE BUCKET-LIST


This year, we are all about kicking those #TravelGoals and are choosing experiences over 'things'. So, if you have set yourself a New Years resolution to travel and are up for the 2018 Greyhound Australia, 30 day challenge, join us for an adventure you’ll never forget!

SYDNEY

First stop, SYDNEY! Often mistaken as the Capital of Australia (the capital is actually Canberra), Sydney is one huge bucket-list destination you need to tick off in 2018!

Top things to do in Sydney:

  • Climb the harbour bridge.
  • Get a selfie outside the Opera House (and make sure you tag us #GreyhoundAustralia).
  • Go for a swim at Bondi beach and check out the Iceberg pools.
  • Try Vegemite on Toast - You haven’t been to Australia if you haven’t at least tried it!

TIP: Download the Transit app for all of the public transport routes and timetables that you need to get across the city each day!

NUMBER OF NIGHTS STAY: 3

TRAVEL TIME: Put your feet up, catch up on your sleep and enjoy the free Wi-Fi on your 13+ hour trip.

 

BYRON BAY

Byron Bay Lighthouse

After a crazy thee nights in Sydney, it’s only fair you give yourself another 3 nights to unwind and chill, and what better place to do that in than the beautiful Byron Bay.

If you haven’t heard of Byron Bay before, it is the epitome of beach town and is THE place to learn how to surf!

Located on the most easterly point of Australia, it is also home to one of the best sunrises you’ll ever witness, so whether you party all night or wake up early, make sure you are at the lighthouse at dawn, it’s an experience you’ll never forget!

And, If you are after a little more ‘chill’ in your life, a little town called Nimbin is just down the road and can offer you that… and much much more!

NUMBER OF NIGHTS STAY: 3

TRAVEL TIME: A cheeky two hours on the road and you’ll soon find yourself in paradise!

 

GOLD COAST

The famous Gold Coast Skyline

The Sparkling lights, endless coastline and unreal nightlife are just a few of the reasons why the GC is such a popular destination for travellers and Aussies all year round.

Give yourself three nights here so you can get to the theme parks, have a barbie on the beach (aka. barbeque), and climb (or take the elevator) up the tallest residential building in the southern hemisphere, the Q1 Tower. The Q1 will cost you from $15 but worth it for those views!

TIP: As it is home of this years Commonwealth Games, you may want to pick when you travel here (if you’re not planning on attending the games, avoid the crowds and travel outside of April).

NUMBER OF NIGHTS STAY: 3

TRAVEL TIME: Jump on a Greyhound and we’ll have you in Bris Vegas in just over an hour.

On your way up to Brisbane, if you can, stop off and get yourself one of the famous Yatala Pies, they are AHH-MAY-ZING!

 

BRISBANE

South Bank Beach, Brisbane

Brisbane, also known as the river city (as a big brown river runs right through the middle - NB: DON’T swim in it, they say there are bull sharks in it), can be one of those cities that is often overlooked, but it shouldn’t be!

Your Brisbane bucket-list consists of:

  • Getting a doughnut from doughnut time (the Nutella one is bomb)!
  • Check out the man made beach at South Bank.
  • Hold a Koala and get a selfie with a Kangaroo at Lone Pine sanctuary.
  • Get to a BIG BASH cricket game at the Gabba.
  • Do a tour of the XXXX brewery.

If you are up for a little more adventure, jump on a boat and head over to Moreton Island for the day and swim out to the shipwreck!

NUMBER OF NIGHTS STAY: 4

TRAVEL TIME: An easy two-hour journey will have you in the beautiful beach town called Noosa!

 

NOOSA

The Fairy Pools, Noosa National Park

Just north of the sunshine coast, you’ll find a little slice of heaven, called Noosa.

Top things to do in Noosa:

  • Put those surf skills you picked up in Byron and put them to the test at Noosa beach.
  • Take a dip in the famous fairy pools in the Noosa National Park (make sure you go at low tide).
  • Check out the Eumundi Markets for a touch of local shopping.
  • Get nude on the nudist beach at Alexandria Bay.

NUMBER OF NIGHTS STAY: 2

TRAVEL TIME: A five-hour coach trip will be all the worthwhile when you find yourself at the gateway to Fraser Island!

 

HERVEY BAY

The Maheno Shipwreck, Fraser Island

Hervey Bay, also known as the whale watching capital of Australia, is a beautifully simple coastal town with plenty to do (see below). However, most know of Hervey bay as the gateway to Fraser Island.

To do in Hervey Bay:

  • Check out ReefWorld Aquarium.
  • Visit Hervey Bay Historical Village and Museum.
  • Walk the esplanade.
  • Go Whale watching (June - October).

But, once you have finished exploring Hervey Bay, get yo’self on the barge and head over to World Heritage Listed, FRASER ISLAND!

Top things to do on Fraser Island:

  • Go four-wheel driving (or learn how to), and hit the 75 mile beach Highway!
  • Dive in the turquoise waters of Lake McKenzie.
  • Take a dip in the Champagne Pools (the islands natural Jacuzzi).
  • Visit the Maheno Shipwreck.

NUMBER OF NIGHTS STAY: 4 Nights (these are best spent on a Palace Adventures tour which will tick all of the list above PLUS so much more).

TRAVEL TIME: A cheeky 4 hour journey will have you in Agnes Waters.

AGNES WATERS

Agnes Waters Beach

Located along the central Queensland coast, Agnes Waters in a beautiful beach town and is very popular spot for travellers and tourists.

To do in Agnes Waters:

  • Visit 1770.
  • If you haven’t seen a kangaroo yet, check out the Kangaroo Sanctuary.
  • Try an Auzzie beer - if you haven’t already.
  • Hit the beach and SURF!

NUMBER OF NIGHTS STAY: 2

TRAVEL TIME: Have your road trip playlist ready for your 10 hour journey to Airlie Beach.

 

AIRLIE BEACH

Sunny day at Airlie Beach

Think jaw dropping coastlines, incredible islands, the Great Barrier Reef and epic nightlife and you have officially described AIRLIE BEACH! She is somewhat of a drive to get to but, BOY, is it worth it!

To do in Airlie Beach:

  • Sail the Whitsundays on a 2 day 2 night yacht trip.
  • Tick the stunning Whitehaven Beach off your bucket list.
  • Snorkel the Great Barrier Reef.
  • Do a day trip on Hamilton Island.
  • Enjoy the nightlife (and copious amounts of Goon) at Airlie Beach.

NUMBER OF NIGHTS STAY: 5

TRAVEL TIME: Recover from all of that sun (and your hangover) as you cruise up to Townsville on your 5 hour coach.

 

TOWNSVILLE AND MAGNETIC ISLAND

Magnetic Island, Australia

Tick two epic places off your itinerary in one go when you hit Townsville.

Townsville is another entry to the Great Barrier Reef (but you’ll have plenty of time to explore that when you are up in Cairns), so we recommend that you jump straight on the boat and make your way for a 2 night stay on Magnetic Island.

While you are on the island:

  • Cruise around on one of the roofless ‘Barbie’ cars (YES, this is a thing).
  • Swim in the ridiculously clear water.
  • And if you time it right, party the night away at the Magnetic Island FULL MOON PARTY!

NUMBER OF NIGHTS STAY: 2

TRAVEL TIME: Jump back on the Greyhound Coach for 5.5 hours and you’ll find yourself in CAIRNS!

 

CAIRNS

HELLO CAIRNS, and hello to your final stop! If you have made it this far, congrats! BUT, the adventure doesn’t stop here!

Some of our favourite things to do and explore in Cairns include:

  • Snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef... dur!
  • Take a leap of faith and BUNGEE at AJ Hackett’ Rainforest jump.
  • Explore the beautiful Atherton Tablelands on a day tour.
  • Visit the World Heritage Listed rainforest by cable way.
  • Hit the reef if you haven’t already.
  • Enjoy the nightlife (the Woodshed is a hotspot but be prepared to dance on tables).
