Travel Tips

Brisbane <> Sydney: Two Ways to Travel the East Coast.

Some trips are about getting there. Others are about everything you discover along the way.

Between Brisbane and Sydney, you can now choose both.

Greyhound gives you two ways to travel between the Sunshine State’s capital and Australia’s Harbour City, whichever direction you’re heading.

Choose our new daily Express service when you want to get there faster, saving more than two hours in either direction. Or take your time on our traditional service, travelling through more of the coastal towns and regional destinations that make this stretch of Australia worth exploring in the first place.

Brisbane to Sydney. Sydney to Brisbane. Fast or slow. The choice is yours.

Get there faster

Sometimes you already know where you want to be.

Maybe it’s a weekend in Sydney, a few extra hours exploring Brisbane, catching up with friends or simply making the most of the time you have away.

That’s where the new Brisbane <> Sydney Express comes in.

Operating daily in both directions, the Express cuts more than two hours from the journey compared with our traditional service, giving you less time on the road and more time at your destination.

More Sydney. More Brisbane. Less time in between.

And there’s plenty worth making that extra time for at either end.

Brisbane

There’s a reason plenty of East Coast trips end up spending longer in Brisbane than originally planned.

The Brisbane River winds its way through the city, linking neighbourhoods, dining precincts, parklands and some of the city’s best-known attractions.

South Bank gives you an easy place to start, while the CBD and riverside precincts offer plenty of excuses to stay a little longer.

And if Brisbane is where the next part of your trip begins, you’ve still got plenty of Australia ahead of you.

Sydney

Some cities don’t really need an introduction.

Sydney Harbour. The Opera House. Harbour Bridge. Beaches stretching north and south of the city.

But like most great destinations, Sydney tends to reward travellers who give it a little more time.

Spend a morning around the harbour. Head across to Manly. Find a spot by the water. Wander through the inner city. Or simply use Sydney as the starting point for whatever comes next.

Or take the time to explore

Of course, getting there faster isn’t always the point.

Sometimes the places between Brisbane and Sydney are exactly the reason for the trip.

That’s why our traditional service isn’t going anywhere.

Rather than travelling between the two major cities as quickly as possible, you can take your time and experience more of the East Coast along the way. Greyhound’s broader Brisbane <> Sydney services continue to connect destinations including Yamba, Grafton, Kempsey, Port Macquarie, Taree and Newcastle.

Stop somewhere you haven’t been before. Stay for a few days. Then keep moving when you’re ready.

Places like Yamba make a pretty good case for doing exactly that.

Yamba

Some of the best East Coast stops are the ones you weren’t originally planning to make.

Sitting on the NSW North Coast where the Clarence River meets the ocean, Yamba has the kind of laid-back coastal feel that makes it easy to understand why it regularly earns a reputation as one of Australia’s hidden gems.

There are beaches in almost every direction, including Main Beach and its ocean pool, while nearby Angourie is known for its surfing and freshwater pools.

The Clarence River adds another side to the town, with the coast and waterways shaping much of life here.

Then there’s the food.

Fresh local seafood is a big part of Yamba, including the town’s well-known Yamba prawns, alongside cafés, restaurants, breweries and local produce.

But perhaps the best thing about Yamba is simply the pace.

It doesn’t feel like somewhere you need to rush through.

Spend a morning by the water. Grab something fresh for lunch. Walk towards the lighthouse. Stay for sunset.

Then, when you’re ready, continue the journey south towards Sydney or north towards Brisbane.

It’s exactly the sort of place that shows why getting between two cities as quickly as possible isn’t always the only way to travel.

Keep exploring

And Yamba is only one example.

Continue along the traditional journey and the East Coast keeps changing around you.

There’s Grafton and the Clarence Valley. Kempsey and the Mid North Coast. Port Macquarie. Taree. Newcastle. Eventually the coastline gives way to the unmistakable arrival into Sydney.

Greyhound’s traditional Brisbane <> Sydney services connect these regional destinations, while the new Express focuses on fewer key stops to provide the faster option between the two cities.

So, which journey is yours?

There isn’t a right way to travel between Brisbane and Sydney.

That’s the beauty of having both options.

Brisbane > Sydney: get there faster or take the time to explore.

Sydney > Brisbane: get there faster or take the time to explore.

The destination might be the same. How you get there is up to you.

Travel the East Coast your way.
