HOW TO GET AROUND DARWIN

Once your Greyhound bus to Darwin arrives at the Darwin Bus Interchange on Harry Chan Avenue, you’ll find that even though Darwin is the smallest of Australia’s major cities, it still has a convenient transport network to help you get around.

Because Darwin is not a particularly large city, it’s easy to explore it on foot. Head to the Northern Territory Tourist Information Centre (on the corner of Knuckey Street and Mitchell Street) to pick up a map and start your self-guided walking tour!

Darwin is mostly flat, and has a number of cycling paths. If you want to ride a bike around Darwin, many of the local hostels and hotels have bikes available for hire.

Buses are the main mode of public transport in Darwin. They connect all the major attractions of Darwin, as well as the Palmerston and Casuarina suburbs. The most useful bus for visitors is the Route 4 bus, which runs every 10-35 minutes through the day. It travels from Darwin Bus Interchange to Casuarina Bus Interchange via the waterfront and stops at popular attractions like Crocosaurus Cove, Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, Museum and Art Gallery Northern Territory and Fannie Bay Gaol.

To use the Darwin public bus network, you can buy single tickets on board (for three hours or a day) or purchase a Tap and Ride card.
