ALICE SPRINGS DESERT PARK

Get up close and personal with the plants, birds, animals and people of Australia’s arid regions at the Alice Springs Desert Park, where the kangaroos nibble your shoelaces if you stand still too long.

ARALUEN ARTS CENTRE

This is the keeping place of stories, reflecting the vitality and variety of the region with over 1,100 artworks in its collection, many of them by Aboriginal artists.

WEST MACDONNELL RANGES

Located within a few hours drive from Alice Springs, West MacDonnell National Park is known for its history and scenic beauty. Best explored on foot via many of the walking tracks that range from leisurely to adventurous. After a hike, cool off with a swim in one the park's permanent water holes.

THE GATEWAY TO ULURU

How to get around Alice Springs

Once your Greyhound bus to Alice Springs arrives at Leichhardt Terrace, you’ll find that Alice Springs is small enough for you to be able to reach most parts of town on foot. Public transport options are somewhat limited here, with regular bus services that run about every one and a half hours from Monday to Friday and on Saturday morning.

Taxis are available from the taxi rank on the corner of Todd Street and Gregory Terrace, near the Alice Springs Visitor Information Centre.

Alice Springs is mostly flat except for Anzac Hill, so riding a bike is a great way to explore the town. Longhorn Bikes, a local company that rents out bicycles, operate out of most hotels and hostels in Alice Springs.

Please be aware that although Alice Springs is the closest major town to Uluru, it’s not exactly close by – Uluru is 463km (288mi) from Alice Springs. Tours are available to Uluru and the Field of Light exhibition from Alice Springs.
