Planning a holiday or weekend getaway should be easy, BUT, we all know, when it comes to planning a holiday for the family, it tends to become less about you, and more about the kids. So, with school holidays coming up we thought we'd highlight some of our favourite 'family friendly' destinations so you can spend less time planning and more time holidaying!
#1 The Gold Coast
PERFECT FOR: Beach bums, adventure seekers and nature lovers of ALL ages.
They don’t call it ‘Surfer's Paradise’ for no reason. This stunning coastal city is located one hour south of Brisbane, and is the perfect family escape for all ages. Whether you prefer to spend your days hitting the surf, going to majestic bush walks, or are the ultimate thrill seeker and love the adrenaline rush their many theme parks offer, the Gold Coast caters for all.
Coming from interstate? No problem, Greyhound Australia offer a number of Interstate and intercity transport options making this trip even more affordable.
#2 Byron Bay
PERFECT FOR: The Laid the back getaway, surf seekers and nature lovers of ALL ages.
Located on Australia's most easterly point, Byron Bay can be described as simply STUNNING.
Spend your days on the beach looking for turtles and whales as they cruise past our shores, or book the family in for a surf lesson.
Offering pristine views (and a way to tire the little ones out) a family walk up to the Byron Bay lighthouse is always a must. Take a picnic, and soak up the serene atmosphere - you might even spot a pod of dolphins!
To get here, jump on one of our Brisbane to Byron or Sydney to Byron services so you can put your feet up and relax the minute you leave home!
PERFECT FOR: A laid back beach getaway, or for the ‘Brisbane-ites’ that don’t want to travel too far!
Only a couple of hours drive from Brisbane, Noosa is one HOT SPOT not to be missed! With a number of beaches, restaurants, bars, shopping and a lagoon you can paddle board in, there is plenty to do!
The Noosa national park is a MUST, with a range of different walks your can do - either to escape the kids, or as a family adventure!
When it comes to accommodation, Airbnb’s, apartments and the usual hotel/motel are always easy options. As Noosa is relatively small is size, you’ll find you’ll be able to get to most places by foot!
#4 Fraser Island
PERFECT FOR: Families who love adventures, getting outdoors and exploring.
No traffic, caster-sugar sand, towering rainforests and freshwater lakes - How could you say no?! The World Heritage-listed Fraser Island is the ideal place for an eco-adventure with the family!
You will find this haven just off the coast of Hervey Bay, where you can pick up your supplies before jumping on the barge to the island.
While Fraser Island is a common destination for campers, we know this isn’t everyone's cup of tea, and so does the island, with a number of alternative accommodation options available.
A dip in the infamous Lake Mackenzie and the Champagne Pools is a must, and what better way to stretch your legs than a walk up Indian Head!
NOTE: You need a four-wheel drive to get around the island.
PERFECT FOR: A beach holiday, the activity seeker, or a city escape.
While Sydney can be seen as a bit of a ‘concrete-jungle,’ there is not a lot you can’t do here. From climbing the Harbour Bridge, seeing a show at the Opera House, or hitting the waves at Bondi Beach, this place has got it all.
With a bunch of child-friendly activities happening throughout the school holiday periods, Sydney is a great destination for the kids to put down the WI-FI and electronics for a few hours, and get socialising whilst embracing some of Australia’ most popular icons!
Getting to Sydney is super easy too! With regular services from Canberra to Sydney, Melbourne to Sydney and even Brisbane to Sydney, Greyhound has you covered!
