Games to keep kids occupied on a road trip

When it comes to road trips, this isn’t our first rodeo and we know that sitting in a coach for hours on end can be taxing, especially on the little ones who just want to get outside and play. So, to help out our fellow parents these school holidays, we have collated our top five road trip games to help smoothen out your next trip with the family.

GAME #1: Eye Spy

It’s an oldie but a goodie! Eye Spy, never fails and in our books and is pretty much mandatory for any road trip! It’ll keep the kids eyes on the road and minds focused on the game! But, if they do get bored, move onto your next game of choice below.

GAME #2: Family Car Games App

This one's for the tech savvy kids (which is most kids these days). The Family Car Games app gives you access to OVER 100 games that need NO equipment - perfect for that road trip. It does cost a couple of dollars to download, but if you have a long journey ahead of you, it is money well spent!

GAME #3: Hangman

Grab yourself a pen and a piece of paper and BOOM, you are now on game number three! Not only is this a classic (therefore pretty much everyone knows the rules), it is a great game to practise those spelling skills! Now we’re leaning and we’re playing, WIN, WIN!

GAME #4: Connect The Dots

Who knew drawing a line to connect dots to create a square could get so competitive, yet so challenging! This game is one to pull out of the bag on those longer journeys as you have to play to the finish (in other words, it takes up time), and the more dots on the page, the longer the game!

TIP: If you can, pack a bunch of different coloured pens so you know who is who on paper.

GAME #5: Spot The Car

When you’re on that home straight, kids are tired and you just want to get to the destination already, it’s time to play ‘spot the car.’ Usually, the car to spot is a Mini Cooper or a Volkswagen Beetle, but these cars can be far and few between on the open road. So, try choosing a colour or ‘shape’ of car e.g. truck, or four-wheel drive to keep it engaging!
